Catalina Jiménez García-Tello is a Chilean author, translator, and UX writer with a passion for literature, languages, and various forms of art. Having spent most of her life in Santiago, Chile, she developed an interest in languages while growing up with her Polish grandmother and desperately trying to access My Chemical Romance content that was only available in English.

Her newly developed bilingualism allowed her to explore literature beyond the Spanish language, fueling her obsession with comparing translated texts to their originals and understanding how language influences the way people experience, perceive, and communicate life.

Due to financial and family constraints, she pursued a degree in English teaching on a scholarship. Although this path did not bring her much happiness, it helped her improve her English skills and appreciate the role of public education. After working as an English teacher for about four years, she transitioned into a career as a UX writer and translator.

In 2018, she pursued a diploma in Aesthetics and Philosophy, which rekindled her passion for studying. The following year, she experienced significant personal loss, inspiring her to write “Cosas que parecen permanentes” (Things That Seem Permanent), a book about love, grief, and relationships from the perspective of a bisexual woman. This book was published in July 2022 by Ediciones Overol, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

After a transformative trip to Japan in 2019, and having always been interested in Japanese culture and art, Catalina decided to start studying Japanese with the intention of living there long-term. She currently lives, works, and writes in Japan, and is eager to learn as many languages as possible during her lifetime, with Polish and Korean next on her list. In May 2024, she joined Linguaphile Magazine as a writer, editor, and translator for Spanish.
